Fluoride treatments strengthen the teeth and prevents tooth decay. It’s a naturally occurring substance in the teeth and it’s also present in water, fish, meat, eggs and tea. Some toothpaste products contain fluoride as well. When taken in appropriate amounts, it’s very safe and does not trigger any side effects.
Fluoride Treatment Procedure
If your dentist believes you could benefit from fluoride treatments, he will first need to thoroughly clean your teeth and polish it to remove stains. Then your teeth will be dried and a fluoride gel will be applied. Some may also use a tray that contains fluoride and this will be placed over your teeth.
Children and adults are given a high (but safe) concentrations of fluoride during their dental treatment. You will also be advised by your dentist not to consume anything for at least 30 minutes to get the maximum benefits of the treatment.
